If you haven’t had much experience with massage therapy, you might be wondering what to expect.
 
Here we’ll give you an idea of what takes place during a therapeutic massage session. We can explain everything except how great you’ll feel after your massage.

We believe everyone should be able to take advantage of the wonderful therapeutic and stress relieving benefits of massage therapy.  We are committed to ensuring that every time you visit us, you enjoy a caring and healing experience provided by Karen, a professional massage therapist. We thought it would be helpful for you to know what to expect on your first visit.

Preparing for a massage is easy: Most importantly, get yourself in a relaxed state of mind. Though some people suggest drinking water before a massage -- a vigorous massage moves around the toxins and water flushes them from the body -- save your water intake for after the session and drink several glasses. 

Once you arrive, you'll be greeted and asked to fill out a Client Intake Form. The Client Intake Form is where you record any medical history, past/present injuries and other physical conditions we should be made aware of.  

Karen will greet you and review the Client Intake Form with you. She will inquire about the reason (s) you are coming for a massage, your current physical condition and any specific areas in which you are experiencing pain or would like addressed during your massage. Talk to your massage therapist about what kind of work you want done and mention any specific areas you'd like to target. 

You will then be taken to a comfortable, spa-like treatment room where a comfortable massage table dressed with a warming blanket and crisp clean sheets awaits.  A small shelf for your personal belongings and a chair are also provided for your use. 

The massage therapist will leave the room and wait outside while you disrobe to your level of comfort. Some clients prefer to completely disrobe, while some will remain partially clothed. Once disrobed, you will lie on the massage table, under the top sheet. Your massage therapist will give you a few minutes for this process and will knock on the door to ask if you are ready before entering your room.

You will always be draped with the top sheet during your massage session and an additional blanket is available at your request. Your massage therapist will only uncover the part of the body they are working on, ensuring that your modesty is respected at all times.

You can expect a tranquil and comfortable environment during your massage. The massage table is heated and padded and will be  adjusted to your preference. There will be relaxing music playing, unless you request otherwise, and the room should be quiet, with 
no outside distractions.

Before beginning the session, you will be asked to alert her if, at 
any time during the session, a technique or stroke they are using 
is uncomfortable. Depending on your specific needs or requests, Karen will either perform a full-body massage (for general relaxation and stress reduction) or focus on the specific parts of your body that you have requested. We use only the highest quality hypo-allergenic massage creams and lotions during your treatment.

Once your massage therapy session is completed, your therapist will leave the room so you may re-dress. Your therapist will wait outside the room for you, and then take you back to the front area.

Our massage therapy sessions are one hour in length. This includes a 5 minute pre-interview, 60 minutes of hands-on time and 5 minutes at the end for you to re-dress.

 

After Your Massage...

Depending on the kind of massage you've received, your body 
will feel a variety of different ways after a session. You might feel completely relaxed and energized from a traditional Swedish massage or you may even feel like you need a nap!

It's a good idea to drink water after a massage, because a successful session will loosen many toxins in your body and water can help eliminate them. 

And if you've had deep-tissue work or had a particular part of the body worked on extensively, you may want to take a mild pain reliever in order to prevent inflammation and soreness that can accompany a vigorous muscle workout.
